Onsite + Online / Play It! Make It! / Curated by Luke MunnOn March 28th, 2008, Window presented a special one-night only videogame show entitled Play it! Make it!. With a handpicked selection of innovative, unusual, and experimental games from Bill Viola, Toshio Iwai, and others, the Play It! section allowed visitors to experience first-hand important game works. A full catalogue text gives an overview of each of these and highlights some key concepts. Game designer Jeff Nusz, together with designer Andrew Johnson and programmer Luke Duncalfe, ran a lightning fast, low-tech workshop that comprised the Make it! section on the same evening. Arming small teams with a bevy of musical instruments, craft supplies and a computer, Jeff assisted participants in designing and building a simple videogame in just 2 hours. |

About the game: The game below comprises the output of the workshop, consisting of over 50 scans of pen, pencil, and cut paper collage art elements, as well as sound effects ranging from xylophone and harmonica to spoken voice. The gameplay has deliberately been kept simple, with a focus on collaboration. To advance through the interactive diorama, simply click the elements in the correct order. An exclamation or buzz signals a misclick - just try a different sequence for that particular layer. |
